99 Word Newsletters

After years of working with Nurses, Small Business Entrepreneurs and Consultants, I have found that not all of them like to write. Surprised? Probably not. So today, I thought I would share with you an easy way to start a company newsletter without much writing involved. It’s called a Visual Newsletter. The concept behind the newest trend in marketing newsletters for consultants is to use more visual content rather than written content. The idea is that you can get the same idea across to your client without requiring much reading time on their behalf.

For example, imagine my LNCPracticebuilder.com  newsletter email heading read, “The 99 Word Legal Nurse Consulting Newsletter” You would most likely open it up to see how I could get my month’s marketing letter across in just 99 words. You might even count them to make sure I followed the rules.

How you ask, could I possible write all that you needed to know in 99 words? Well let’s break down how it works.

First you will need extremely compelling graphics.

Photographs that make people feel something or get your point across without speaking. We are not talking clipart here. As a matter of fact, clipart has no place in a consultant’s world. NONE! Not a clipart gavel on a business card, not a clipart, spinning pic on your yahoo website…no place in your practice is an acceptable place for cheap looking clipart. You don’t see that on other professional’s branding efforts so you only cheapen your practice’s image if you use it. Ok, on to the subject at hand; if you’re thinking of the quip, “A picture is worth a thousand words” then you’re right. It was just too easy a pun for me to point out. Here is an example of what I am taking about.

Imagine the difference a few dollars makes towards your professional image. Also you can choose a photograph that will allow you to print part of your 99 word directly on the photographs, as above.

Secondly, use words almost as caption explaining your visual elements. The words need to be compelling. The above photograph was used in a recent Veteran’s Day program, so you could simply say, “We can never repay your sacrifice other than to say Thank You.” Not once did you mention guns, war, Veterans or anything obvious but you did create an emotion in a reader. Double that emotion if they or their family members were part of Military Service.

Finally, you can fit this type of word-impaired, visually compelling newsletter without spending much money. Because you can use online delivery systems, free graphics programs and stock photos, its very bottom-line friendly. The following are some free or low cost resources that will allow you to create some amazing visual newsletters if you are feeling verbally challenged or just for a nice change of pace to spice up your current newsletter design.

So the next time you’re sweating bullets over a practice newsletter that actually gets read, try a visual one. With everyone walking around with a tablet these days, it will be stunning. By the way, for those of you who are counting, this post has 631 words in it…but I like to write!
